I guess that the majoy reason of my insomnia is that I worried about something too seriously.

For this reason, the colour of my face is not good and my hair is losing now.

Memoirs of a Geisha

I saw the movie, memoirs of a Geisha, yesterday.
In Australia, every Tuesday is Movie day which people can buy movie tickets at a low price.
So, I planned to see the movie near a Hoyts theater.

I enjoyed the Japanese Culture such as Geisha and Kimono in the movie. It was beautiful and exotic.

I think even if Korea is close to Japan, there are lots of Cultural difference.
It was interesting to experiecne other cultures

The story of a main character (Sayuri) toughed me. Her love was so innocent and pathetic.
I was sorry that it was hard to achieve her love because she was a Geisha.

Generally, I like this movie in the way of expressing images.
However, since most actors and actresses come from China, that reminded me of their previous movie (Chinese movie). In addition, all speech were English even if there were few Japanese words.
I think that for this reasons, the movie are a little bit out of touch with reality.

Today is the Valentine day.
However, that is none of my business. This is because I don't have anyone who I give the Chololate. It is a little bit sad reality.
Even if some criticise the companies of Chololate, I think it is a quite good event for people. That is, people can publicly express their love, today.

I had presentation about modernism and postmodernism today.
It was group presentation so, I did modernism and June talked about postmodernism.
However, I think I did mistake.
The problem is that my presentation time was so long.
It takes around 40 minutes to just finish my part and in addition, June had 20-minutes presentation.
Therefore, Our group did 1-hour presentation. wow! how amazing!
Interestingly, I did not recognise it was long. I rather thought it was shorter than I expected.
Anyway, I feel a little bit sorry about that because many students looked so bored.
Next time, I will prepare much shorter but impressing presentation.

I am a little bit stressed out, these days.
This week is 11th week of the semester, so many projects must be finished by next week.
For example, website, Flash, podcast product, 2500words essay, presentation...
I hope I can successfully handle them.

I like pumpkins a lot. Especially, I love a Korean style of a pumpkin soup.(pumkin porridge) Similarly, I also enjoy food made from buttercup squashes. Its taste is smaller than pumpkin however, it is much easy to handle them. (for example, we can less have trouble with cutting them)

Today, I am going to introduce a Korean style of buttercup squashes soup. Its recipe is just same as pumpkins are used.

Ingredients: a buttercup squash, white glutinous rice flour, water, salt, sugar (haricot beans, chestnuts)

1. Cut buttercup squash into small pieces. (remove seeds)
2. Put the water in the pan and boil the pieces of buttercup squash until they become tender.
3. Add white glutinous rice flour and salt (If you like sweet taste, add sugar as well)- now the soup become mushy.
4. For more tasty dish, add boiled haricot beans or chestnuts.
5. You can add pine nuts and walnuts.

She is a handicapped person by infantile paralysis. However, she has started to work since she recognised the fact that she can express what she cannot do by making dolls. (she was 20 years old at that time)

I found some interesting public advertisements.
I was impressed by its amazing inventive view.
Another surprising fact is that all ideas of advertisements come from the public
I'd like to introduce one of them, paticularly, I like.

It was awared an excellence prize of Korea Broadcasting Advertising Corporation(KOBACO) in 2004 .
The topic is "reading".
The meaning of slogan is that there is an annual ring of knowledge in books. I hope this is a good translation.
When I saw the advertisement, I strongly agreed with this idea,"reading is the most effective way of learning".

In Comm314, we analyse advertisements in the semiotic term these days. It is usually commercials, which imply particular myths and ideology. They mostly appeal the public emotion using images and texts. I think in the case of public advertisement, underlying intention may be different. This is because public adversiements primarily aim at social awareness. While commercials use the dominant ideology in order to get public agreement, it is likely that public advertisments usually go againt prevailing ideological myths. Therefore, people can realise problems which is not seriously cognised before.

I think by using the common feature of a tree and a book, it operates well to the public.

Even if I am inept to interpret the adversiement from the view of sign, I like to analyse various communicative matterials examing its denotation and connotation. Maybe I need to more study semiotics so as to develop the professional eye.

So hot weather..
I love to eat banana smothy in summer.
It is easy to make it.
Just prepare a frozen banana in Refrigerators, 1 cup of milk and pieces of ice. (Some add sugar or cinnamon but I really don't like sweets )
and put thoses in a blender.

I eat well everything these days. This is because my stomach is getting healthier but sometimes I think I eat a lot.
I am happy that I am healthy again. It can be consequence of Chinese medicine which I took before. -_-
As a result, I gained weight as well, maybe I need control my big appetite now.
Anyway! enjoy this summer with banana smoothy

The news about death of the Samsung Chairman's daughter made me think about life.
I felt compassion for her.

However, I am shocked by its related news, again.

It is the fact that the news is garbled!

To be specific, she didn't die by a car accident. In fact, the detailed fact about her death was not reported. For example, where, when, how the accident happen? It is just known as the car accident near New York.
I was also curious but I thought it was against etiquette for the dead person.

The truth is she suicided herself!

How is it possible that the truth distorted?
According to the family of Samsung Chairman, the distorted news was reported earlier then, they decided not to correct it because they do not want to mention about her death and remember her.
No matter how they explain this situation, I am angry and disappointed.
I think it is wrong that they try to fake up news.
It mocks people!
Even if it is the matter within their family, people have the right to know the truth and media should not make up the story. Otherwise, It might as well keep silent.

Not only falsely represented news, but also her suicide make me feel upset.
The reason is not clear but there are several presumptions.
To sum up, she worried about her father, the chirman of Sumsung(health and suspicion of corruption) and the matter of her boyfriend (the situation opposed by her family). Furthermore, she felt lone from living abroad.

All have troubles while they live. However, everyone do not die.
Even people who is in the depths of misery try to overcome obstacles and take courage.
She is such a weak-willed person. I believe strong will can conquer hardships.
She is just silly and senseless and deserves death.
It is deplorable that she goes to hell. Suicide is againt God. That is, It is a heavy sin that regard life as worthless. This means that it is ignoring her creator, God.
What a pity!

The story of Sumsung tragedy makes me deliberate many issues.

The Korean side dish- Egg JangJoRim.

As you know, Koreans live on rice.
That is, they eat a bowl of rice and several side dishes every meal.
The major side dish is KimChi, which is already well known. It is so basic and famous that I don't need to explain it.

So, Today, I am going to write the recipe of another side dish.
It's just simple but tasty. Even I can make it.
I think there are similar dishes in other countries.

It is Egg JanJoRim that will be introduced as a today's dish~
The word 'JanJorim' means things soy sauce is absorbed into by boiling.

Ingredients: eggs, hot red [bird] peppers, soy source, water

1. Put the water in the wide pan and boil eggs
(If you want to make the position of the yolk of the egg be centre, stir the egg while boiling)

2. Peel hard boiled eggs and put the eggs, cut hot peppers, a half glass of water and a half glass of soy source in the pan.
3. Boiled all until soy source is absorbed into eggs.(It is usually the time when the dish smells hot peppers. If you don't like peppers, you can omit peppers)
Koreans usually use eggs of a quail instead of eggs. I guess the reason may be its size. In fact, the egg is quite big, but in the case of the quail's egg, we can easily eat it with a spoonful of rice at a mouthful.
It is just matter of one's taste.

Rice with Egg JanJoRim is a quite nice meal. Try it~

Korea’s Students Take College Entrance Exam

Wednesday was the big exam day for some 600,000 Korean high school students all looking to enter college or universities. Mothers wept and prayed as their sons and daughters anxiously set off to take the test College Scholastic Aptitude Test. "I'm so nervous, it feels like I'm taking the test. I just hope he will do his best," one said.

There are good reasons for worry. The students heading into designated schools are about to face the most important test of their lives. How well they do on it will decide whether they gain admission to one of the country's top colleges. It is crucial because getting into a top university remains for many their sole ticket to a successful career in Korea.

Inside the test centers, the students faced questions in math, literature, history and foreign languages.

The students' families have paid millions for private lessons at crammers -- known in Korea as hagwons -- where the youngsters spend as many as 14 hours a day. "I slept around five hours a night -- probably too much actually,” a student said.

This year's CSAT was held amid concerns over endemic cheating. Last year, dozens of students used cell phones to send text messages to share answers. The widespread temptation to cheat is an indication of just how much pressure the students face in this make-or-break exam.
This time, test-takers were forbidden to carry mobile phones, and the Education Ministry has warned that cheaters could be sentenced to prison.

Even students who are not taking the test today are nervous. "I'll be taking the test in two years, but I already feel uneasy. I will have to study hard in the coming years," a student said.

My cousins also took exams today. They are same age but one entered the school one year early because she was born in January. She was not satisfied with her marks last year so tried this exam again. I know she is a such a hard student. Over the last one year, she has not even met her friends in order to concentrate on her study. I respect her strong will.

The other takes an exam at first. That is, it is first time for her to take the exam. I also like her as well. She always think of her future and enjoys ther study.

I hope both will get the best marks they can get as the result of the exam. ^^

Samsung Chairman’s Daughter Dies

Lee Yun-hyung, 26, the youngest daughter of Samsung Group chairman Lee Kun-hee, was confirmed Monday to have died in an automobile accident in New York City last week. Lee, who graduated from French literature Ewha Womans University in Seoul, had begun studying at New York University this year. She owns 8.37 percent of Samsung Everland, the de facto holding company of the Korea’s largest conglomerate.

A company manager said Tuesday that the funeral for the younger Lee was held at a hospital in New York Monday, but was not attended by Samsung chairman Lee. Chairman Lee has been staying in the United Since September for post-operative cancer treatment. Lee’s wife Hong Ra-hee, his only son and oldest child Lee Jae-yong, vice president of Samsung Electronics, his oldest daughter Lee Pu-jin, vice president of the Shilla Hotel, his second daughter Lee Seo-hyun, vice president of Cheil Industries, attended the memorial service of their youngest family member, the manager said. He declined to comment on the details of the automobile accident.

The tragic death of the youngest Lee came at a time when Samsung faces a public outcry over allegations of corruption and financial irregularities. There are suspicions that chairman Lee, 64, is extending his stay in the U.S. to weather the storm surrounding the prosecution’s investigation into Samsung Everland, the amusement park unit of the group, after allegations that the company’s wealth was unlawfully transferred to the founding family. In October, a Seoul court found two Everland executives guilty of arranging the illicit transfer of the chairman’s wealth to his children through their company. Prosecutors are also expanding their investigation into the allegations that Samsung provided slush funds of up to 10 billion won to presidential candidates ahead of the 1997 elections. The accusations stem from a television news report revealing the content of a wiretapped conversation between a Samsung executive and a newspaper publisher discussing the provision of slush funds to presidential candidates in 1997. There is a possibility that Lee could be questioned over his alleged involvement in both the Everland and campaign fund cases. In July, the civic group People's Solidarity for Participatory Democracy (PSPD) filed a request with the prosecution to investigate 20 current and former Samsung executives, including chairman Lee, over their alleged corrupt ties with politicians.

I was quite shocked by this news because many Korean are favorably disposed toward her.

It is know she had an open nature and even launched her own website, unlike her siblings, who prefer to keep a low profile. There was a happening that she had to close the site due to a deluge of visitors in September of 2003.

In fact, She is the third richest woman in Korea. According to a recent survey conducted by the Forbes Korea, Lee Yun-hyung, younger sister of Samsung Group Chairman Lee Kun-hee, accounted for more than one-fifth of the assets held by Korea’s top 50 richest women.

It is hard for me to believe the fact that such a rich person can easily die by a common car accident. I may have an idea the lives of rich people are very different from me like ordinary people. From this news, I keenly realised that everyone is the same about the matter of death. That is, whether a person have a lot of money or not, eventually his/her life depends on God. Money is just vein in front of death. I became deeply grateful to God for living and decided I would live more actively and ardently.

Today, I'd like to introduce popular Korean food, DukBokKi. Everyone from children to adults loves DukBokKi in Korea. Like many Korean food, DukBokKi is quite spicy. Its main ingredient is long slender white rice-cake
Ingredients: : Long slender white rice-cake/boiled fish paste/cayenne/Korean hot pepper paste/salt/starch syrup/sugar/sesame/welsh onion/onion/carrot/sesame oil.

1. Put fittingly and brew water in wide pan.

2. Put Korean hot pepper paste, and cook rice cake when water boils.

3. Put and boiled fish paste and welsh onion, onion, carrot 4. Put cayenne.

4. Put cayenne.

5. Exhort and put sugar or starch syrup to salt.

6. When boil all, put sesame or sesame oil. (You can add boiled eggs or other vegetables you like)

What do you do on the weekend?

This is the question I want to ask people who study in Sydney.
I usually stay at home and spend most time sleeping.
I think I am too lazy to go out on the weekend.
I know it may be nice to visit somewhere. However, I have already been many famous places in Sydney such as Circular key, Bondi beach, Manly beach and Darling habour etc. So these does not give me new pleasure.
I want to relieve my tension for next week.
I want to get rid of my stress
What shall I do? I think I need other habits.
It seems my friends usually drink for easing their stress, but I don't drink because I am a Christian.
Some may say "do extra study" and other may say "just loaf around all day long". Both do not appeal to me.
Is there anybody who will advise me what to do on the weekend?

Our group members (June, Kay and Sunny) went to Rosevile station to filming tv advertisement for Comm402 project.
We needed to purchase a bunch of red roses since topic of our project is a tv commercial for the flower shop. I was so surprised by the price.
It was total 36 dollors. We took one dollar off the price but we wanted more discount.
I thought compared with the price, the flowers were not good.
And then, we met two performers at Town Hall in the morning.
Both are from France.
This is the first time I met French people. It was a great novelty for me.
I am happy because both is good looking for the camera.
Firstly, we took shots on the train.
The scene was that the actress was looking out the window with a pleasant expression.
It was easy to set to work because nobody was in the train.
After getting off the Rosevile station, we shot other scenes.
Since the station was peaceful and quiet, it was suitable for our film.
We took several scene about the man with flowers going to date.
We are so satisfied for the actors.
He was better on the camera.
I guess it took around one hour to shot all.
The task was quite complicated but, we finished successfully.
Lastly, we took a memorial photo all together~

It was interesting and pleasant day!!

The assignment was hard for me.

I needed to hand out first assignment of comm409 today.
I stayed up all night finishing the assignment.
Whenever I checked the writing, I always found somthing which needed to correct.
Nevertheless, I am not still satisfied about the assignment.
Just the fact that I have no time to improve sentences any more makes me stop checking the assignment.
Anyway, since I already handed it out in the morning, I am lightened in heart now.
I am so tired and sleepy.
I am going to go to bed earily.

Oh.. My purse is stolen!!!

For me, Tuesday is a little bit tough day, because I have two classes from 10am to 4:30pm.
This reason may influence my bad luck.
Going home after class, I lost my purse in the George street.
I felt my bag was tugged.. something like strange feeling at that time.
I immediately checked my bag and I found the front pocket of the bag was open.
Firstly, I thought I forgot to lock the pocket but, suddenly I found my purse was missing.
I looked around to look for my purse.
However, It's too late.
Someone already took my purse!!
A thief stole my purse!!!
I could not believe it!!
A redeeming feature in a tragic affair was that I did not carry my bank key card.
There was only twenty dollars and student card in my purse.
That is, the purse did not contain even any important cards. (e.g. photocopy card)
I thank God.
I decided not to put the purse in the front pocket of the bag.
It was terrible experience.

My trouble

I didn't sleep well these days.
I just worry about many things.
Assignments, projects, future, family etc.
Last semester is quite tough.
I am so confused.
It is hard for me to begin something because I am too worry about it.
I don't want to waste my time.
I hope to successfuly achieve things I have been given.
However, I am often disappointed when I feel insufficient to manage these..
I think I need to be persevere in my efforts.
This is because I really dont' want to repent of my idleness in the future.
I hope I overcome this weakness.

I was seriously ill last Thursday.
It was a kind of stomachache.
Since I threw up all I had eaten, I could not keep taking a train. So, I need to get off at several stations.
It was terrible feeling.
Unbelievably, it tooks two hours to arrive at Chatswood from City.
After that day, I have taken care of food.
I think, I am now completely restored in health.
However, I will keep the message 'Health is important'in mind'.

Pole Rafal Blechacz, 20, won the first prize in the high-prestige Frederick Chopin international piano competition in the Polish capital, the jury announced Saturday.
He will receive a gold medal and $25,000 dollars (20,000 Euros), dashing the hopes of a line up of four Japanese, three South Korean, a Hong Kong Chinese, Russia and US pianist who were also vying for the prize.
The jury did not award the second prize, awarding the third prize to two South Korean brothers Dong Hyek Limov and Dong Min Limov.
Takashi Yamamoto and Shohei Sekimoto of Japan shared the next prize.
Held every five years, the competition is in its 15th edition. In 2000, it was won by Chinese pianist Li Yundi, 18.
In the final, the contestants had to play one of Chopin's concerts in E minor or F minor.
Blechacz is the first Polish pianist to win the prize since 1975, when it was won by Kristian Zimmerman.
The other Japanese finalists were Rieko Nezu and Yuma Osaki, while the third South Korean contender was Yeol Eum.

I've heard it is first that a Korean pianist go into the finals.
In addition, They won the prizes.
It is just incredible!!!!
Especially, they are a brother and both won third prize, with no second prize awarded.
I was a fan of Lim Dong Hyek when I was a high school student.
I had great respect for his endeavour and ardour.
Since he was as young as me, I was impressed so much.
I still eulogise him.
I am also so proud of Lim Dong Min, his elder brother.
Lim Dong Min is a great pianist as well.
I'd like to listen to their performance.

No school on weekend!!!

I was a little bit tired during the weekday because there was no day off in this semester.
That is, I need to attend the school from Monday to Friday.

Over the last three semesters, I have had the classes for only four days.

I think final term is quite tough.

I think it wears the clothes of 'Monkey King' in 'The journey to the west.'
I guessed it from a fillet and big ears.

The dog in the picture is a species of 'Chihuahua'.

When I was young, I had a Chihauhua.
This picture reminds me of the dog.

Sydney weather is strange.

It seems to get colder and colder these days.

I doubt whether it is spring.

There was a chilly wind today.

I feel the cold wind went straight to the bones.

I think the weather in Sydney is much colder than in Seoul.

How ridiculous!!

I expected the weather became warmer.

However, it seems the season goes reversely.

I hardly believe summer will come.
